“Isn’t Overten Just ChatGPT With Extra Steps?” Answering the Questions People Actually Ask

Every time we talk to someone new about Overten, we get some version of the same three or four questions. So instead of another feature list, here's the honest, slightly informal version of those conversations.

“Isn’t this just ChatGPT with a Word template?”

Fair question, and no. ChatGPT is genuinely good at writing. That was never the issue. The issue is that ChatGPT's job ends the moment it gives you text in a chat box. You're still the one building the actual document, fixing the formatting and making it look like something you'd send to a client.

Overten's job doesn't end there. It creates the finished file: the real Word doc, the real spreadsheet, the real deck, inside the same workspace, with no export-and-reformat step in between.

“Doesn’t Copilot already do this inside Microsoft Word?”

Sort of, but there's a real difference between “AI added to an office suite” and “an office suite built around AI.” Copilot is a smart assistant standing next to 30-year-old Microsoft software. It's useful, but it's working around the constraints of an app that wasn't designed with AI in mind.

Overten was built the other way. There's no legacy interface to work around, because the interface is the AI.

“What can this actually do that Google Docs with Gemini can’t?”

Two things. First, Google's AI help lives inside individual apps. Gemini in Docs is Gemini in Docs. The moment your work spans a doc, a sheet and a slide deck (which, for most real projects, it does), you're back to tab-switching. Overten treats that as one workspace, not three apps that happen to be nearby.

Second, and this is the bigger one: Overten can reason across those documents at once. It can catch that the number in your spreadsheet doesn't match the claim in your slide. That's not something any single-app assistant is positioned to do, because it's not looking at the other files.

“Is this really faster, or is that just marketing?”

The honest answer: it depends what you're comparing. If you're comparing ‘time to get a paragraph of decent text,’ most AI tools are roughly comparable. If you're comparing ‘time to get a finished, formatted file you can actually send,’ that's where the gap shows up, because that's the part every other tool quietly leaves for you to do by hand.

“What’s the catch?”

The honest catch: Overten is a newer product, so if you're deeply embedded in a Microsoft or Google ecosystem with years of documents and workflows built around it, there's some switching cost. What we'd say to that: try it on one real task, one memo, one deck, one model, and see whether you want to keep switching back for the rest.
